Yoga meets Fight Club

Lotus, originally uploaded by martin prihoda.

This is one amazing shot. It's from Martin Prihoda. I was cruising the flickr strobist group checking out all the great photos there and this stood out for me. I wish i could do something like this. I bet with time and practice (and model would help) I can achieve this.

The Great American Pin-Up

Pin-up Art, originally uploaded by Roldie.

I got this new Pin-up book and of course I wanted to take a picture of it. I was trying something new with the flash. I set the power on the lowest setting available which was 1/128. I also had a diffuser on it. It kind of looks underexpose but I think it's better the other shot with a higher flash output. A more natural feeling I believe. I also shot this in RAW format. It's not the first time I shot things is RAW but I think I'll do it more often than not.

Rummaging through old Photos

Las Vegas Sunset

Las Vegas Sunset, originally uploaded by Roldie.

These were taken about a year ago (give or take a couple or months.) Nothing really special here. I took them on top of a parking garage. I believe it was the Wynn. The top one is with my D50 and bottom one is with my D80.

Do It Yourself Mini-Softbox Diffuser

DIY mini-softbox diffuser, originally uploaded by Roldie.

I made mini-softbox diffuser out of cardboard, electrical tape and tracing paper. It took all of about 45 minutes to measure it out, cut and put it together.

It measures about 5 inches by 5 inches at the opening.

Without Softbox Diffuser:

Harsh (hard) light on the image. Just a little overexposed.

With Softbox Diffuser:

Softer light evenly speard out.

In all honesty, I think the harsh light looks better then the diffused light in the photo comparison. There's a uses for both lights. It's a matter of when and where. Also what is the lighting situation and presonal preference. All in all it depends of the photographer and the subject.

To the Strobist we will go.

Take Him Down Jay, originally uploaded by Roldie.

This begins my journey into the off camera strobe. I've learn throught the Strobist website and kenrockwell.com that I can trigger my Nikon SB-600 Speedlight with my D80 wirelessly. Now I am more interested it pulling off strobist type photographs.

More of to come in the future.

Through the Rise of Roldie and the Fall of Lt. Spam :
My Return

Snoopy Art Work at the Venetian, originally uploaded by Roldie.

I went out on a photo trip today, if that's what you want to call it. It always seems that when I decide to go out to take some photos I always go to the Bellagio first. But on the way there I saw that the new Palazzo (hotel/casino whatever it is) building was open. So after the Bellagio I went there to check it out. It a beautiful place. Better than the Wynn I think.

I messing around with all the compensation and bracketing settings when I was trying to take photos of the water show. So when I got to the other places I forgot to change them back. So almost all my the photos I took look underexposed. It was all most a bust. Live and Learn, I guess.

I have decide to drop the Lt. Spam title. I'm not really a LT., but I do still like spam so that's a keeper. I'll still be Lord Spam on somethings but I rather use a part of my real name on this blog. After all this blog is about my Photography adventures and myself. Full post here.
