Week 24: Dreams do come true.

Klarrissa

My main goal for the year was to be published in a actually magazine. When I'm not shooting or editing pictures, I procrastinate and network like crazy. Before I was pretty intimidated by others and didn't know if they'll take me seriously. I pressed on though and decide to start speaking up.

While on the forum I got to talking with a location model very activate in the industry and we strike up a conversion about a future shoot. We planned it out and set a date. Well anyway she got offered to do a spread in UK pubilcation and wanted me to shoot it for her. Of course I said yes.

These are some other stuff we did after the actually shoot.

She super chill and really down to earth.

Week 22: Not Right!

One of the most caring person I ever meet.

I'm feeling pretty sad at the moment. Maybe my heart is too big or I care to much but I can't help it. I had a good week of shooting but I heard a horrible story involving a really sweet girl and some assholes that want to call themselves photographers. I won't go into details but I can't believe would do such a thing.

If this is how the industry works then I don't think I cut out for it.

It's a truly sad world.

This is what I did this week.

Jade Bryce came in to town and I'm so happy I shot with her. She's genuinely a good person. She really wants to save the world. and I want to help.

Week 17: The Agency Test.

I had my last art shoot of the Month on Sunday with Ashley Graham. We shot in a familiar place.

Got my Instant camera replaced.

I'm running out of place to shoot. I know that there are plenty but I want to do something different. Something to captivate people imagination.

Then on Thursday afternoon I shot with agency represented models from eNVy Las Vegas. I was contacted by Tori who I found out wast the executive assistant for the agency. This was my only chance to shoot with since both were live and work out of LA and would be leaving in the next couple of days. I took to the back of a shopping center, see running out of places to shoot.

Tori brought another model with her. Usually I don't like shooting 2 models at a time but this time I didn't mind. Her name is Ashley Bradford.

Week 14: So it goes on.

This week in film

Same as always. I had a couple of shoots and a couple of cancellation. I shot with Farrah again on Thursday at Lillie's place. Trying different things but not really. I did style her shoot though. First time ever for me.

First look we went for was that high contrast black and white with a body suit from American Apparel.

They we decided to have a bit of fun and go old skool with 'fro.

Still in the middle of editing. Actually I'm super backed up editing. I take a little bit longer now.

Anyway on Friday. I was suppose to have a shoot with a very experience and professional model from out of town. Shoot time comes around and she's not there. I get in contact with her and she's says our shoot is for tomorrow at whatever time. I double check via the iPhone and our shoot is for Friday that morning. She messed up. When I try to adjust the time and reschedule there was no response on her end. I moved on from that point.

Later that afternoon I shoot with a lovely model who not only showed up early, she wasn't feel all that great in the morning but still made it to the shoot. Such a trooper. She's from Tennessee and she pretty awesome. This was from my art portfolio. I shot with film. Messed up using the Holga because I forgot to check settings.

Random afternoon blog: 365 project = FAILED

I didn't take a picture on April 3, 2010. Didn't feel like doing anything. If you know me personally then you know. I'll still post pictures though of some daily activities on occasion.

365 is a difficult project. I'm trying to make the pictures interesting for viewer and come up with something new everyday. Some times the pictures were crap.

Week 13: Did a Fashion Show

Shoot with Shelise again on Thursday. This time in Studio. She's actually really fun to work with. She loosen up a bit and was open to ideas and willing to get down on the ground for some creative shots.

This is the only shot I've edited so far from that shoot.

On Friday I did my 2nd Fashion show at the Aruba Hotel. Elle, who've I shot before contacted me a few weeks back and ask if I would take pictures of her fashion line for the show. I was down to do so. I actually offered to come early and do a mini-photoshoot to capture her whole line. Didn't happen like that though.

I got there around around 5:00PM and pretty much no one was there yet. They started to show slowly. Ever model had to do hair and make-up so I knew it would take at least a couple of hour so I step to the side and let them do there thing.

We had one major problem for the shoot. Where were we going to do it. Elle's original planned spot of taken over by vendors. So we ask if we could have some space to shoot. They gave a room fill with furniture and really ugly decoration. So we decided to walking around the joint. There was this bar in the Aruba called the Thunder Bird Lounge. It had a empty stage so I was like lets use that. After asking a few people we got the okay.

After more walking around and checking of the venue I went to check out the stage more. As I get there, there were people setting up band equipment for a live show tonight after the show. Now I have to find a new spot to shoot.

Near the rooms where all the models were changing and getting make-up done was a hallway with an outlet. I was like to Elle "If you're down, I just shoot right here". She was cool with that.

I actually knew a bunch of people there. Models I've shot with before and other photographers that recognize me because I have my picture up pretty much everywhere. Hell, Shelise was there. I had a couple of drinks with Andrew (A M Johnson) and shots right next to Drew (Andrew K.) during the show. Brain Hillburn was there and greet me after the show.

Before the show it was pretty hectic models weren't ready for the mini-photoshoot before the show. I only had time to take a couple of a few models before the show started.

This was a major experience. It was also a little stressful. I think I'll have some help next time I go do this.

Week 12: The team at the Studio

Couple of shoot this week. First one was on Tuesday with Brittany II. Wanted to work with her from a while never got up the nerve to ask back then. She moved away and I thought that was that. Found out that she was in town for a short time. I figure when is the next time I'll get a chance to work with her. So I asked.

As I thought super cool model and even cooler person. Shot on location where we kind of snuck in. Really luck out with the location.

Then we hit the mean street of Las Vegas.

Then had a shoot with Stefania on Friday at the studio. MUA Nickee was available and did make-up and of course Lillie help with the hair. Fun shoot. Only one picture right now. Still working on post.

Week 11 - More lighting stuff

You too can rock those lights at Xquizit Pix Studio.

I had 2 shoot this week. One on Thursday in studio and one at Town Square on Friday.

Thursday was with Miss Sheena Sisk. She's a Showgirl currently working in Jubilee. Anyway we did some ballet stuff and she needed more Headshots. The light set-up above is pretty much what I use to shoot headshots nowadays. It's pretty self explanatory. Only thing different is I used a 22" white beauty dish and I added another light to fill in the shadows on the left side of her face.

Here's the finish image.

So I was rockin' 4 lights and weird reflector thing which work wonders for bouncing light back into the model's face.

Here's another only using 2 lights. One Large Softbox to the right of the model and another strobe point at the wall to add a little bit of fill light.

Then of Friday I shot with Shelise H. A up an coming model just starting out in the industry. I took her to my favorite location spot, Town Square Las Vegas. We did a very casual shoot. Shelise was such a pleasure to work with and I had a good time working with her even though I was lacking some real sleep.

Random midday blog - Instant Film is Back.

That's right. The The Impossible Project has release some film for our old classic polaroid cameras. The have a different types of film for all the different types of camera. There are still pretty expensive though. Pack of 10 photos is $22.00. I guess it's better than paying for expired film for $40.00 off some dude on ebay.

For some reason I really want to shoot with polaroids. Ahh hell, its just fun to use and easy too. I guess I need to start saving some money.

Week 10: The Calm Down

TIffany Von Cott - She's an actress trying her hand at modeling.

Shoot with Tiffany on Wednesday. It's pretty much the only thing I've done this week. Other than trying to catch up on sleep. I think I need to easy up on the post work. Some images can do with the old vintage some really don't go with it. I just have to pick and choose which is which.

Oh, I broke my film camera. I'm glad I have 3 of those. And my scanner won't work anymore.

Side note - I was going through old pictures for edits and I think I'm better with ambient light then studio light/strobes. Don't get me wrong I still suck all together but I think I'm more happier with my ambient light work.

Week 9: Hell Week

Janette. She's from LA. She's a videographer/photographer and she's super cool.

My job has been fucking with me and my schedule. With the shift change I would be have been scheduled to work 0400-1500. I have a hardship and I need to work after 1500. So there alternative is to give a shift but in a different work location. In the worst work location there, I'll just call it up stairs. So it's like a rock and a hard place. Never the less I take their offer. So since I haven't been there in while I need to get re-certified to work there. Thus I began class on Monday at 0700-1700 everyday this week. Sleep is not something I did a lot during this week.

At least I go to work with some pretty cool people. And a different challenge from me. Available light shoot at night. Shot with Janette on Wednesday.

Then the next day I shot with Ms. Bella Moore. A truly experience model.

If you notice I'm shooting more nudes now. As I immerses myself in the world of fashion photography, I find that nude work, even partial/implied to full nude work, is a pivotal part of the industry.

Both shoots were on limit time. Most of the shoot were with just available lighting. It was a mixture of tungsten and fluoresce light. I shot with fast glass, slow shutter speed and high ISO. And surprisingly I adopted just shooting with large JPEGs, because I'm not really a PS wizard and I really don't know how to use PS.

Week 8: New Lighting Gear.

The light test model.

I had a week of cancellation in studio and pick up one shoot on the side. So on Tuesday I got the package from Mr. Paul C. Buff with my B800, softbox and beauty dish. Took them over to Lillie's. Didn't have a model to test them out on so I used a mannequin we dubbed "Pixie". Really wish I had a actually person to shoot.

Then on Thursday I had an itch to shoot someone so I contact Alexandra who I was suppose to shoot a while back but our schedule never meshed. This was a pure guerilla shoot on location at a hotel off the strip. Pretty fun stuff. Check the fickr for pictures as I done editing them.

That's it for this week. My schedule is changing at work so I don't know if I'll be shooting all that much in March. Model wise anyway.

I don't know how the exposure meter got set to -2. I know i didn't concisely do it myself. The only reason I found out that it was set to that it's because I was checking out the images on Adobe bridge. Now I know to check out my camera before a shoot. I always check ISO, WB, Shutter speed, aperture and now the exposure meter.

The reflector in the shot is actually a DIY reflector. It's not your usual flat reflector but it's curved like a cresent moon on a podium type thing.

Week 6: Last minute and on location

Nicole Burron she's from Oregon.

I had some cancellation in the beginning of the week but really no big deal. I took some pictures on film. Developed some of them and still have some in the camera. Walgreens was having a sale on prints. Half off or something like that.

On Wednesday I was contact by Nicole who was refereed by Sarah Z., who I've work with a couple time already. I nothing else planned so we set up a shoot for Thursday the 11th.

Super spontaneous and quick. I pick a alley that I thought had lots of character. It's also had a bunch of people still there. We start around 3:30PM or something and end just about an hour later.

The lighting set-up is pretty simple but really difficult to take pictures of yourself in such a limit space. No set up shot because of the limit space.

Week 5: Getting a Little Creative.

Dress by Lillie K

Creative is what I'm lacking or I don't push enough while shooting. With the help of Lillie I got some creative conceptual shots this week.

I guess Lillie got inspired by last week photo and decide to make a newspaper of her own. I use that dress in Lillie's studio with Farrah this week.

The photo above was just a light test while Farrah was getting her hair done by Lillie. My plan was to use one light for the whole shoot. I ending using up to 3 lights for some shots.

I had a good time at this shoot. Lots of fun. Everyone did a great job. There's more images but I'm still in the process of editing. I may post them here.

On a side note, I might be bringing down lordspam.com. I'm not getting any real traffic and I'm not really getting any business there. It's cost me money every month to have it up. We'll see what happens.

I'm going to be honest, I'm really not looking to make a living on photography. That never was a goal of mine. But they are cost involved, especially with what I'm trying to do now, and I don't want to lose money. I'll be content with breaking even.

Right now, I'm just looking to get some great images, build up my skills and maybe be published one day. Maybe in the future be paid for such a thing.

Lighting Wednesdays Pt 1

This is the first installment of a 4 part series called "Lighting Wednesdays". To coincide with My 365 project in the month of February I'll be doing picture lit by a strobe(s).

This week is only one light through a small softbox.

Here's the set-up:

Camera Info:
Nikon D300
Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8
Focal length @ 122mm
Fstop @ f/10
Shutter Speed @ 1/160
ISO 200

Lighting info:
Vivitar 285HV to left of camera about 45 degrees and above of objects. Power set on a 1/4. Vivitar triggered with cactus radio trigger system. I added a reflector to bounce some light back up to the front of the cameras.

As you notice I have the light fairly close to the cameras. That's because I want the light to be as soft and even as possible. Moving the light back farther away will make it harsh and uneven defeating the purpose of a softbox.

I used a poster board, which I got at a office supply store for cheap, as a seamless background for a cleaner more production shot look.

This set up will work wonders on a model.

Got my knowledge of lighting here - Strobist. And I'm still learning.

January is finally OVER!!

It's about damn time I say so.

Anyway, I'm trying to come up with lively ideas for me to do and spice things up a bit. So I figured since I have all these lights and light modiifers at my deposal, on Wednesday for the Photo of the Day in month of February, it'll be a picture that will be lit up. Week 3: Not as planned.

^^ Underachiever.

Updating early, No need to think about what picture I need for the week. I had something planned for this week that fell through. Photo above of yours truly is what happens when I want to do something and something doesn't happen. I'm not a model but I'm more than willing to get in front of the camera.

My 365 project is going well. Every picture I write a little something. Maybe technical set-up or just something I was thinking at the time. Go see if you want too.

Week 2: The Pretend Assistant

Well, I didn't really have anything planned for this week. I went to a couple of photoshoot with some friends and kind of sort of assist them. Not really, I stood around most of the time. Maybe a took a pictures here and there. In actuality I just wanted to hangout.

I did have my video camera with me and let Mario take some video. I did the editing.

I let Lillie borrow the video camera and she did a tour of her Studio with Kiti Kobian.

I was also at Lillie's on Wednesday and shot some behind the scenes footage of her shoot with Anna Van Sambeck. Video coming soon.

On Friday
I had a last minute put together shoot with Megan Medellin. And where would it be but in Lillie's studio. This was the first shoot I had this year. I'm kind of a liar and told myself that I only wanted to use one light but ended up using 2, One as hair light. The image below is a one light photo though.

I'm pretty sure if you're fairly familiar with lighting you can figure it out but here's a diagram of the lighting setup. I used strobox application on my iPhone for the diagram.

After my shoot, Lillie had a shoot with Stephanie Ann Cook. I help out a little bit. Pretty much just held things up while Lillie made a tutu dress type thing. I saw some preview of the that photo set and they look amazing just from the back of the camera. Can't wait to see the finished photo.

Random Late Night Blog -Bokeh with the NIkkor 35mm f/2.0D AF

So I was pretty bored and decided to play with the depth of field on one of my lenses, bokeh for you photography nuts.

The bokeh that this lens produces is beautiful. Didn't even stop all way down and still get nice shallow depth of field.

Even at f/20 the sharpness of this lens is outstanding.

I hate reviewing shit but this Nikkor 35mm f/2.0 is great at low light situation and tact sharp. The AF is superb and quick to respond. As for the actually construction of the lens, it feels really sturdy. Compared to the nikkor 50mm f/1.8 this has a considerable amount of weight to it. This has been on my camera since the day I got it.

Maybe one day I'll get a Nikkor 85mm f/1.8. Hopefully.

Week 1: 2010 edition.

Another beginning.

Yes sir, it's a New Year. I actually finished the 52 week project 2009 which is not to shabby. Man, that really flew by fast. I'm starting another 52 week project 2010. Same concept, different attitude. Instead of mostly models, which is most of what I did last year, this year will be a bigger variety of photos.

I've decide to take at least one of my cameras everywhere I go. I'm doing so in hopes of capturing something interesting. I'll try and shoot everything. See how it goes here: 365 project.

Random Night time Blog: Editing tutorial.

NOTE: This look is a high contrast, really desaturated look. Suitable for fashion and what not. So if you don't like this look, I would just move on to something else.

Here's the step by step process on how as of recently been editing photo. Very high contrast, desaturated image to look vintage.

I use Adobe Bridge for organization/workflow and Photoshop Creative Suites 4 for my post processing of images. A basic knowledge of PhotoShop in needed for this tutorial.

1. After the photo in chosen and open the first thing I do is make duplicated the background layer just in case I mess up I can always go back to the drawing board.

2. Then I go to the drop down menu, image-adjustment-exposure and brighten the image up just a bit.

3. I proceed to clean any blemishes off her face and and other parts of the model. I use the healing brush tool for this. I also bring out the eye with the dodge tool on highlights and about 2%. I try not to whiten the white's of the eyes to much because it give that freaky doll eyes look. Then I go over the eyes with the sharpen tool on lighten and about 4% just to bring it out a little bit more.

Optional step here; you can use the paint brush tool, sample a part of the skin for the color and set it on a low opacity and low brush flow to smooth out the skin. I did not know use this step in this photo because in a couple of steps down the line I use a filter to smooth the skin out.

4. This was the longest and most tedious part for the process. The cleaning of the background. Yes the background is just as important as the subject of the photo. If you notice in the in the original photos the background is quite dirty and really noticeable. I use the clone tool and continue sample different parts to get the color just right. The hardest part is the shadows. Still using the clone tool, I clean up the stray hairs as best I could so the photo still looks real.

5. After all the clean and blemish removal is done, I copy that layer and I add surface blur filter. This is to smooth out the skin. I had the Radius and Threshold is set pretty low. Depending on how you want your photo to look the percentages is all up to you.

6. After the blur filter, I mask that layer and bring out the eyes and lips this is this part in the bottom layer. when you done with that. Right click on the mask layer and apply layer mask.

7. Then when you're done with the layer mask, I bring down the opacity of that layer to about 80%. I would put the opacity to about 30% - 80% to keep some detail of the skin. I merge that blur filter layer and background copy layer together.

8. This part is optional, I add a noise filter to the photo. I have the amount set on 7.16%. This is to add more detail in the image. I bring down the opacity on this to about 40%. You can do the amount or opacity to your liking, This is a great option for black and white photos to give it more depth.

9. I do some cross process with layers. This is all for the vintage old faded look.

- Add a curve layer, on the RGB grab the bottom left of the line and move it up a bit. Then with the red and blue do the same. With the blue also grab the middle part of the line and bring it done a bit. The photos should looks a bit yellow.

-Add a Hue/Saturation layer and bring down the saturation. I usually go down to about - 20 or beyond.

-Add a brightness/contrast layer. I brighten up the image to about 10 and the contrast to about 16. * this layer is optional.

-Add another curve layer. and in set it on either multiply, soft light or hard light from the drop down menu. That depends on you. This layer adds more contrast to the photo.

-Add a photo filter layer. I had set mine to blue and at 16% to cool the photo down.

-Add a exposer. This is to add a haze look to the photo. I just mess around with offset and gamma slider.

10. I resize the image and add a unsharp mask filter.

That's pretty much it. I add all the layers because during steps of adding them you can adjust the layer or delete if you need be. If you add it to the image itself and a couple of step down you decide you want to change it or delete it you would have to scrap the image to go back.

That's one photo took be about 25 - 30 minutes. I'm still learning myself but this is what I learned. I pretty much spend more time editing that actually behind the camera. I practice, practice, practice.

But this is my philosophy. Get it right while taking the picture, then if you so desire enhance it in PS.

I learned the cross processing and adding adjustment layers from Lot 8 Studios His images are what I inspire to create.

Random Early morning blog: Shooting the moon.

Kind of tutorial on shooting the moon. Hit the jump to learn more.

When I first started taking pictures with a dSLR I took the per-requisite pictures of Sunset/Sunrise, Flowers, inanimate objects, Landscape and at night of course I did the moon.

And like all beginners, I didn't know what I was doing but I had a decent camera and I thought I knew the jest of it. Here's was what I was thinking then. Since It was at night I need long exposure time and wide open aperture. The moon is far away so I need the longest lenses I have. So I went to the tallest parking garage I could, set up a tripod and starting firing away.

I thought I got some good shots but as I was looking at other shot of the moon from other photographers, Yes, they look cool with all the clouds and stuff but I was wondering where all the detail was. Pretty much the only thing I got right was the long lens.

I've ask other photographers for help and their answers made a lot of sense. So I'll share it with you guys.

This is the question I ask; Why is the moon looking like a big glowing dot in my photos?

It's because it's reflecting the light from the sun. The sun is the most powerful lights source we know, even at 18% and reflecting off another surface, it's still pretty bright. You have to treat shooting the moon like shooting the sun, kind of. To minimize the light you have to stop down you f-stop and run your shutter fairly fast. Also you don't need to up your ISO since doing so will let more light is being capture by the film or in most cases nowadays, a digital sensor. Just keep it around 100 or 200 ISO. You don't even need a tripod since the shutter speed is fast enough to be hand held.

I tried it with the advice given to me and it worked out pretty good.

I totally can't remember any of the shots above shooting info, such as shutter speed and aperture but I shot the moon again just a few hours ago and here is the data.

I was standing in zero level at the airport, I should have actually went to the top of the parking garage which would have gotten me closer to the subject. I keep the aperture at f/8 since most lenses sweet spots for focusing is at f/8 - f/11. Also since your not getting any other background in the shoot it didn't make a difference to control your DOF. Just keep the aperture there and adjust the shutter speed accordingly. Only thing I did in post was crop the image.

I took only 2 shots and the photo above is the second of the 2. I would have taken more shot but I was on my way home from work and didn't want to dwell in the middle of the road.

Week 52: The finale of 2009

Wasn't going to drink but what the hell!!

As you all well know 2009 is coming to end and 2010 is nearer than anyone expected. Happy New Year people, may all of you be happy and prosperous in the new year.

I'm updating today because tomorrow (tonight actually at midnight) it'll be 2010. Here it is. Tomorrow is the beginning of the 365 project. Hopefully I can keep up.

I got a D300 used. I paid for it with my performance bonus at work. I opted to get the D300 instead of the D300s because I figure I didn't need all the new features such as the video and other hoop la with the newer version. And I kind of wanted to save money even though I've been spending like crazy.

I also been editing old photo which you can see at my flickr page. I'm trying for a old faded photograph look. Beware, most are not work safe.

I'm gonna go back to drink now. Keep a look out for a whole bunch of pictures in the new year.

Random afternoon blog: Before and After

I'm using image from my last shoot. I used a Canon 30D for the first and since the camera doesn't belong to me I didn't change to much of the settings. My buddy shoots in Large Jpegs most of the time and I don't. It did save me a lot of space on the hard drive but I'm still more accustom to shoot my own way. I shot it with his 55-200mm f/something. I really don't want to say it but I noticed a lot of dust spots everywhere on the image. either his lens is dirty and/or his sensor is dirty.

Cleaned up background and blemishes on face. Soften, desaturated, and high contrast with a touch of blue.

Nothing to special. PhotoShop is a vital part of photography now a days. It's also one of the hardest things to master. I barely scratched the surface.

Week 51: Christmas or Bust!!

My only shoot and picture taking event was last Wednesday the 23rd. It was with Julie Riette. I'm a bit rusty on the studio lighting. Since the D80 is pretty much not operable I borrowed Mr. Mike Lee's Canon 30D. I'll tell you now that shooting with a canon is a lot different than shooting with a Nikon. I was a bit out of my comfort zone.

I had a bit of trouble get the the lights to trigger properly. Then realize one of the strobes were not working as it was suppose too. Never the less I got a few good shots off and Lillie was such a kind person to let me use her studio.

I put that statement "it's not the camera that makes the picture. it's the photographer" to the test. So you can be the judge on the quality of the pictures here.

I'm trying a different editing style. I'm learning from Lot 8, who's work I really admire and inspire to try and re-create. Still haven't got it yet but I'm trying.

Week 50: More Advertures with film...

Finally update on Tuesday morning the 22nd. Shot most of everything on Thursday the 12/17/2009.

So since it's that time of year again and most of the decoration are out I decide to make this a Christmas theme.

At Town Square they have these Life-Size Vignettes from Norman Rockwell famous artwork. I found out about this in the winter of 2008 but never got around to going over there and take pictures of them. Now I pretty much go there every week.

I figured why not do this now. I did it with a the Holga 120N because I already had it loaded with film. And for a little twist I added some light with a flash I got with my Ricoh camera from eBay.

Pretty simple, 12 exposures and 6 status. One with flash and one without.

The time of day was mid-day but the light was nice and soft from the most part.

The Film was Fujifilm 400H 120 professional color negative. The flash, I try to set it on the lowest setting output as possible but I really don't know if it was or not.

I'll also include a iPhone image of the actually Norman Rockwell Artwork.

I spent about an hour and a half at Town Square that day. The first 30 minutes I found 5 of the vignettes and the rest of the time I was looking for the last one. After awhile i decided either the Last one is in the actually Santa House thing where people take pictures with Santa or they don't have a 6th vignette.

Week 49: Back to the old

Mandiee back in action.

From nothing last week to 3 days and 4 models. That's how I roll I guess.

Usually I do the the blog update kind of late in the day on Saturday or after I get off work if not on a later date. That's because I still could take some pictures on Saturday during the day and it would still count for the week. I figure I took enough pictures to this week and I'm not planning on doing anything for Saturday.

I schedule a shoot with a model from San Diego some time ago. It was for Wendesday the 9th. It was 36 degree out that day. Our model is Miss See-Yin.

One of my friends is a fashion designer that design this shirt. One Love is what it's call. I told him to loan me a shirt and I would shoot some stuff for his catalogue shots. He gave that shirt last month and I only got around to shooting now.

See-Yin was a joy to work with and a really trooper for it being that cold out there. I did an artist nude editorial shoot with her. I let her take multiple breaks to warm up. I had a great time with her. Although some people show up to the spot and kind of shut us down. I'm running out of location to shoot at. Hit up the flickr to see more photos of her.

Then I had a fall out shoot from a casting I did a week ago to try and complete this project of mine later that day with Jaclyn C. at the same spot but since it was shut down I opted to shoot at Town Square. She was already there and the shoot went pretty quick because it's of the cold. We got some good photos none the less.

The next day Thursday 12/10 I had a pay shoot with a model I've been to work with for a while. Nelly is her name. She contacted me months back and due to scheduling conflicts Thursday was the day we final got to do something. She needed some photos for promotion gigs. I didn't have my regular lighting gear so I had to make some compromised and have my speedlight on camera.

And as usually I try to do a little bit of editorial fashion. For the most part I wanted to use the ambient light around and make real uses of the nifty fifty (the 50mm f/1.8). I didn't get to do this with Nelly because I control the environment. I shot in a small space and didn't have enough room to move freely.

I shot on Friday 11th with a model I work with before at the Red Rock hotel shoot I didn't whenever that was.

Miss Mandiee. I always like this girls look and wanted to shoot with her but she couldn't find the time. Here she is now and I'm diggin' on her shirt.

All in all I'm really diggin' the 50mm f/1.8 and I'm thing of getting the 35mm f/1.8 soon. As I mention in a previous post that I lost a piece off my camera. I think it's time to get a new one. If only I had the loot to do it.

Week 48: Adventures with Film.... Part whatever

I took a couple shots with a Ricoh manual 35mm film camera and because of my procrastinating ass I didn't get down to develop it till today. They weren't finish and since there are close tomorrow I can't get them till Monday.

I did take picture with my dSLR but it's kind of a bullshit pictures and I don't want bullshit pictures on the "photo of the week" project. You'll see enough of that in the "365" next year.

Well here's the picture anyway. I'm trying to sell this on CL.

Really didn't have anything going on this week. I was trying to get something going on but it fell through.

Week 47: Thanksgiving - Turkeys beware!!

One Last minute shoot with 2 models. Miss Christina Mason and friend.

Well for this week I didn't have anything planned, photoshoot wise, being that it's Thanksgiving week and people just want to be with family and such. I figure I do another "adventure with film..." because I loaded film in my 35mm Ricoh camera and went to test it out but it didn't meter. I figure either the battery (a spankin' new battery) was bad or drained or the meter inside the camera was broken. I got a new battery from Fry's and popped it in and still nothing. So I promptly went on the internet to see if I could find some way to fix it but after looking at a couple things on google, got bored and I was like fuck it and went to Ebay and did an impulse buy and bought another Ricoh camera. If you're asking why I bought another Ricoh and not another brand like Nikon or Canon, Pentax even, is that I like the lens that came with my Ricoh. I paid a totally of $35. $25 for the camera, lens and flash and $10 for shipping from Seattle, WA. Got my Ricoh right now on CL for and grand totally of $30. Came with 3 lenses, filiters, Manual and a bag. Not a bad deal at all. I figure I can still use it in studio if I meter with dSLR first and set the camera accordingly. Which is what I did on Wednesday night.

I switch game plans and was going to Holga it for the week since I did have a roll of 120 film, color this time. On Tuesday morning (afternoon really, but morning to me because I wake up at the crack of noon) I get a text from Christina Mason, whom I shot with 2 time before. She wanted to do some pictures for her dude's, as she like to call him, birthday on Friday which is 2 days away. She wants to shoot as soon as possible. I'm down and I opt for Wednesday. She and I wanted to shoot in studio so I hit up Lillie. Lillie is so cool for such a short notice and it's the day before Thanksgiving. Hoping for just a couple of hours.

Lillie helped out a lot with wardrobe and make up. Even some patron tequila. Stay longer than anticipated but Lillie was all cool about it. I highly recommend renting and working with Lillie. You won't regret it.

I'll have the photos from the film soon. I didn't finish the roll yet.

I didn't take this and it's not even from this month. I was going to make this photo of the week and justify it by saying I edited this week. I came to my senses and thought the better of it. This was taken in May 2009 at a Motorcycle event on Russell and Rainbow. A friend was trying to help me out and throwing me gigs liking shooting this event (for free). As lazy as I am and I really don't need this for my portfolio, I handed the camera to my bud Deontae and told him to take hit the streets and take the pictures. He caught this candid shot of me and some chick.

Week 46: The adventures in Film...

This was my weapon of choice. The Holga 120N.

So since I was on a little hiatus but not really more like a little break, I decide to work on my photography skill just a little bit and try my hand at film. I recently pick up a Holga on CL for cheap and got a roll of 120 film. My original plan was to go to Bellagio or something and take some pictures there. But since my foot was bother me I didn't want to go there limping around. So my location of choice was our local Target. I had to go there anyway to pick up some stuff.

The Holga is a pretty simple camera. No batteries needed, just load the film and start snapping away. So I basically just worked on composition. I didn't know what the shutter speed was or how big the aperture was. It really was just point and shoot. After developing the film, I came to the conclusion that I need more light or higher speed film. Out of 12 exposures I got 10 images, I think I messed up loading the film in at first. Some are okay but in general just dark.

Don't mind the scan. My scanner is a cheap one with some dust on it. I didn't know it till I looked at the pictures.

Not even Thanksgiving yet but the Christmas Trees are up already.

So Film is pretty interesting. I'm still going to work with film and with the Holga. I do like how the images have that vintage look. I already have another roll of 120 color film. And I have a number of 35mm film which on is in the camera already.

Random early evening blog: The summer of '09

The joy of jumping. Miss Victoria Quang.

So I've been going through old photos from months past or re-editing some work that looks a little off. Still keeping up the old stuff I done just to see how far I've come. I may have progress as a photographer or may have not. But I've learned a lot from when I started, meet some really great talent people who were willing to help another out. I also work with lots of great people in this industry. From models to make-up artist to hairstylist and other photographers. I really enjoyed what I did and if I had to do it all over again, I would.

You guys can be the judge of my work but I like them and I enjoyed creating all the images I've done. I may as well live by this quote. "the worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt." - by Sylvia Plath. I may be down and in a slump sometimes but I always come back and I never really give up.

That being said I'm horrible at hiatus because I'm always thinking about shooting something or someone. So after a week and half (but not really because I shot in between then) I'm back but I'll keep slow and work on the my technical aspect of photography. I working on film right now. I'll keep you posted.

Yeah but anyway these are the images from this summer. I've edited some with Victoria but I found these others. It wasn't that hot but I was still sweating bullets. Victoria is really great to work and a great person to work with.

And here's some of Tanya Su. She was one of the first models (3rd model actually) ever worked with. Not to long after she went to Hawaii.

I'm also testing out my new logo and working with CS4 which is kind of the same but you will notice the difference as soon as you start using it.

And if you wondering why I did so many blog post in the last week or so is that my foot has been bother me again for the past 2 weeks now and I've been spending lots of time in front of the computer.

Random mid day blog: Polaroids are coming back.

So Polaroid stop making their famous instant film in the summer of 2008. And pretty much the dream images that was polaroid would be gone forever as soon as the film runs out. I just recently found out that a group of people calling themselves the Impossible b.v. has bought the factory in the Netherlands and will be producing polaroid film and will be distributing the in early 2010.

There's also a company in china that's going to reproduce the polaroid cameras themselves.

When I started shoot I had a fascination with all thing vintage especially with polaroid. So much so that I have 5 polaroid camera at one time. Range from cameras that were built in the 30's or 40's till my most recent which I purchase at a drug store in 2008. I still own 3 out of the 5 cameras.

I tried to make some of my photos that I took with my dSLR to look like the colors of the film of polaroid. Through a program I got from poladroid.net it kind of immolates the actually 600 film. My pictures got a little cut off but I think I just have to resize them before going through the process. I'll give a go a little later in time.

Hopefully when the films starts coming out in 2010 it will be affordable enough to for everybody (especially my broke ass) to enjoy.

Week 45: Not so much on Hiatus

I put myself in a hiatus state but I did schedule shoots for this week. This is Yadira Camacho.

This is how I schedule stuff, I use every available time I have to shoot or edited pictures. Maybe fit a movie in there somewhere. So before I went on hiatus (or really just a slow down with what I'm doing) I scheduled some shoots on my days off this week.

Wednesday I shot with Yadira at the very familiar spot I shoot. I'm on a black and white conversion kick just trying to do something different and possible see thing differently. This outfit is all her.

I don't know if I said this before is that I just have a general idea and possibly an image in my head, but for the most part, I look at the outfits they bring and the scene that I have and go from there. Was that a run on sentence. Whatever. Creatively is not with me at the moment but I know other great photographers that taking up the slack up.

Anyway, back on track. On Thursday I shot with Vanessa G. at my beloved Town Square Las Vegas. I've think I been there everyday this week just on general purpose. I did my normal "guerilla style" photoshoot because I didn't want to be bothered by the "fuzz" of Town Square. She had really cool looking outfits which I really dug.

I forgot about the time change thing of Day Light Savings and the sun was going down pretty rapidly. I shot for less than an hour because of it. Didn't get to do her late outfit which I was digging too.

All images have been done minimalist style. Using natural/ambient light.

Went to Lille's studio, Xquizitpix.com, on Saturday to pick up an umbrella but really just to hang out. Mike, Polarpics, was there getting back to the swing of things and Mario 702photo.net showed up too. It's actually cool to see them.

I have no shoots schedule for next week. Maybe I can pull something together last minute. But here the plan as of right now. I want to mess around with some of my film cameras. Maybe possibly 120 film with be the next photo of the week.

Random late night blog: Oldies for the Summer of 2009

This is Victoria Quang. Also Pacquicao won this evening. I'm filipino by the way.

I've been going through old photo sets I've done this summer just to see if I'll find some gems I've mess the first time. I shot with Victoria in July of '09 at sunset park.I think that's the last I've to sunset park to shoot. Last year that park was my go to place for shoot. So much so that I called it "studio # 1".

Also I've been on a black & white kick as of late. Trying to get that old film-y look to things. Trying to change things up as of late.

And of course I did one as I always do.

Random mid-day blog: Announcement for 2010

I'm putting this up now so I don't back out of it before it actually comes to the date. And it's Friday the 13th.

Im going to do another 52 week project in 2010 but I'm going to start a 365 days photo project. Every camera I have will be in play even the iphone camera. Not only that, to go with the 365, I'm going to do a song of the day.

This is how I'm thinking of doing it. 52 weeks will be in the blog and 365 will be show cased on my flickr page.

I'm hoping this is going to expand my horizon. Let me see other things in a different light and find new music.

Keep a lookout and I hope I can last the whole 365 days.

Random Late Night Blog - Behind the Scene with Lisa Marie

I'm taking it pretty slow for the next few weeks. So during this time I'm reworking old images from past shoot. When I shot with Lisa Marie about a month ago she had 2 friends with her and they happen to take pictures of the us shooting. I just got the behind the scene photos today.

Week 44: Slowly

With Anna Van Sambeck

I'm trying to improve myself as a photographer. I'm trying to add my meaningful images than content. All my work looks the same and little crappy compared to other photographers.

So instead of shooting with 3-4 models a week, I'm going to focus on one model for the whole week. This week I'm working with Anna Van Sambeck.

Same location I've shot before and kind of the same look but I'm trying.

All done with available light. In my quest to better myself I'm going for the minimalist approach on photography and using what I have already.

Week 43: My Laziness

This is Melissa. Really cool pinup style. I never seen that with dreads.

I felt super Lazy this week but manage to squeeze in some shoots.

I Shoot with Melissa MM # 775421 (image above) on Sunday 10/25/2009, make-up by Sabrina MM # 1333872. I was actually going to shoot 3 models on Sunday, Melissa was the first and 2 other later in the day at the same time. The 2 others cancelled which was a good thing for a change because the make-up and hair took longer than I thought and we didn't even start till a couple of hours later. I have't done any other images from that shoot yet.

Then my next shoot would be on Friday 10/30/2009 at Town Square with 2 models. first would be Kira M., her second shoot ever according to her. The available light that day was really good so I just didn't really use any strobes. We just around Town Square for a bit and stay out of the way of heavy traffic areas. Didn't really have a problem this time.

Later that day I shoot with Nicolle S. She needed some casual headshots for her portfolio and I offer to help her. Shoot at Town Square again and did the same incognito type shoot.

That's it for the shoots this week. I did however finish some edits for a few models and trying to hone my skill as a photographer. Learning more about composition and lighting. I'm going to lay off the lights for a bit and see where that takes me. All photos above were taken with Natural/ambient light.

Week 42: Work the Business

My buddy Joel was in a power lifting event at the Rivera Hotel and he ask me to take some pictures for me. Since I'm such a nice guy I say yes and head over there early in the morning. My first notion is to put my 50mm f/1.8 and just take available light pictures. I had to get fancy and bust on the long lens. 70-200mm f/2.8. I didn't want to use a flash because I might bother with some of the contestant while lifting so I turned up the ISO to 1600 open the aperture to f/2.8 with a shutter speed of 1/100 so it doesn't catch my hand shaking.

While taking pictures of the lifters I was approached by a couple of people to take their or family member participating pictures. I didn't think I was going to be working this event but just to make a quick buck, even to get my entrance fee back I say yes.

All in all I made a little scratch and got to hang out with some buddies in the process.

Criaglist' actually works for getting some gigs. I was contacted my a Marketer and chairman of his own business to take his photos. Shawn is he's name, I work with his ideas. We hit the dry lake bed in Jean and then to Lillie's studio. Real cool guy. Very down to Earth. I wish all Chairman were like than.

One of his idea. Came out pretty good I think.

Week 41: Editing Frenzy

Didn't really do much this week. I shot with Nancy on Sunday and Ergesta on Friday. I wanted to spend my off days catching up on editing I'm suppose to be doing. I'm such a slacker.

Week 40: Losing Track of time.

Lillie's says I shoot a lot.

So I have been shoot a lot and falling behind on the other aspect of digital photography, post production (editing). I'll catch up soon or later.

Well on Sunday Oct. 4th I shoot with Elizabeth Par at the Xquizit Pix Studio. She contacted me through email first because her model mayhem account wasn't approve yet. So I accepted the offer and we started setting thing up. As her model mayhem got approved I found out she's only 17. Not a problem as I don't shoot nudes much or even implied for that matter. I'm focusing on more fashion editorial images now. She of course said she'll bring a escort which I didn't mind either. Shoot day come and her escort is her mother which I find pretty appropriate since she is a minor. Her mother was a big help with styling her daughter getting props and coming up with general ideas. Lillie was a big help too with everything really.

Shoot ends and as usual I have an image or two ready that day and sent it to miss Elizabeth. I take a look at her model mayhem page and come to find out she re-edits the photo I sent her and has them up on her portfolio. It kind of bothers me and I tell her she needs permission before any work can be done to the photos. She apologizes and offers to take it down but I'm not a hard ass (and I kind of like what she's done with them) so I let her keep it up. It's kind of a good thing because now I don't have to edited her pictures.

Anyway here's another.

Lillie was telling me that she was talking to Elizabeth's Mom and found out she only 16. I don't have a problem with that but this kid is pretty big at 5'10". Whatever.

Then on Monday Oct. 5th I shot with Ysania at my usual spot in Las Vegas. No big story here other than the fact I got up really earlier to shoot with her.

Wednesday Oct. 7th I had schedule to shoot with a brand new model at Xquizit Pix Studio but she cancelled last minute (That morning) but I pick up another shoot for that afternoon. This was a reschedule last minute shoot because I have some free time and don't know how to say no.

Thursday Oct. 8th Shoot with Lindsey Mitchell. Got booted out of one of my best location because I can't take professional pictures without a permit. Bastard. Only got off 200 shots, that includes the one I did when I was waiting for her.

Yeah, I do shoot a lot. Crazy, huh? But this is one of the only things I enjoy in life. Might as well be happy for a little while.

I'm going to slow it down a little and work on the technique and style of things. There are a hella of a lot of photographers younger then me doing big things. Hopefully I'll make it in this world.

Week 39: Almost

I almost completely space this week blog.

So it was suppose to be another busy week for me well on my days off anyway. I was suppose to shoot with a new model but of course something else came up and she had to reschedule. She reschedule to a different day and then something else came up again and said she has to reschedule another time. I haven't heard from here yet.

I did a shoot on Sunday but I'm not really happy with that one. I don't even want to look at the pictures.

Then comes my super Wednesday where I would shoot Megan Jane and then trek up to Mt. Charleston to Shoot with KelsiRose.

Picture are not done yet other than the ones in the pervious blog before this one.

Thursday I didn't do anything but edited all day. Later that night I saw Zombieland. I don't care what critics say, I enjoyed it.

So that Friday was the frist Friday of the month which means I get to go to First Friday. I haven't been in a couple of years. That morning I was cruising the casting section on model mayhem and I found out one of the make-up artist I worked with before put a casting for a photographer. She was doing a live body painting event and after she was done she wanted pictures taken. I hit her up and since I was going to be there anyway. I got to take pictures of them doing there thing. You know there are a lot of people that have pretty decent cameras.

I didn't do much on Saturday but I did shoot on Sunday but that a whole new week.

I had a long day today. I got up early to Shoot with Megan Jane at the Xquizit Pix Studio.

After all the fun at the studio. I drove down to Mt. Charleston and ran out of gas going up there. I actually coast almost all the way down the mountain on neutral till the road started straightening out.

Went up there to shoot this. I think she's an angel. This is Kelsi.

Random Mid-Day blog: The polaroid has died.

I really love the style of polaroid.

Since I don't have a premium account anymore on Model Mayhem I was trying to decide which photo I should delete to make room for newer ones. I keep going back and forth with a couple of them and decide that I really don't think I'm going to shoot polaroid anymore. I really love the style and feel of it since they stop making the 600 film it's hard to find. If and when you do find some it's not very cost affective. I've see some 600 film (a pack of 10) on ebay go for $50.

I still got 3 polaroid cameras (I had 5 at one time) and one pack of 95 film which I'm sure is expired. If I ever do run across some 600 film I'll try and do more good with it.

I wish I used my money and the film wisely and shot more interesting things. I have a bunch of them I still have scanned so I get to that soon enough and be adding them to my flickr page.

I still shoot 35mm film on occasion. I have 3 manual 35mm film camera and I'm wanting to use them everyday.

Week 38: It's a bust

Thanks for to good ole' Craiglist, I found first time model Michelle. who save the 52 weeks.

I was suppose to shoot several times this week and because of cancellation due to flakey model and MUA's. Also not have enough time to shoot because as much as I want it to be, photography is not my life and I have other things to take care of. So I was in dire straits to find a model the complete this weeks project assignment. I could have just taken a picture of anything and put it up but I want this project to actually mean something to me. But I want to state that I don't have to take pictures of models nor does this project have to be all about models. I made this so I can take a picture every week. With that picture, I wanted to take the time to think about what I'm doing. See the scene and get the exposure the way I want it. To better myself as a photographer. That's what this project is about.

So all week I was lolli gagging around and all of sudden it's Friday and I haven't shot a model or anything worth wide yet. I hope on CL and put out a casting to see in I could salvage this week. I got a handful of responses and decide on first time model Michelle. She actually did better than some model I work with. Very open to ideas and willing to try new thing. And no that doesn't mean you can get her naked. She did however decide on her own to wear an kind of corset top for the first outfit. Who am I to say no to that. Since this was only yesterday I'm still in the process of post production with you set. But here's photo of her in her first outfit.

Week 37: Kevin smith's 37 special

I suck in the dark. Title of the blog doesn't mean anything. If you ever watch all the Kevin Smith movies the number 37 comes up a few time. His new book come out on Tuesday the 22nd the September.

I wanted to do some night shots with Danielle. But it was Really dark and my lens nor myself couldn't focus the camera properly to get some decent picture. Well maybe 2 decent pictures.

I was so frustrated that I ended the shoot early and offer to shoot with her in a Studio. Lillie K opened Xquizit Pix Photography Studio this week. Well I used it Friday afternoon. We (as in the other photographers that were there) were fiddling with lights for a little bit. I think we got some good shots.

I also shot with Brittany Eddy for zivity and Carla Marquez for a portfolio shoot. Still working on those images.

Week 36: 3X Wednesday

Shoot with 3 models on 09/09/2009

This week was supposed to be one of the busy weeks I've ever had in my photography life. I was schedule to shoot on Sunday, Monday, 3 models on Wednesday and to do a fashion show on Thursday night.

Well the model from Sunday's shoot didn't show so she actually flaked. I called her the time of the shoot and it went straight to voicemail. Then about 4 hours later I texted her to see if everything was okay. She texted back with "I slept through the alarm because I was out all night, This is my first time Vegas" She wanted to reschedule and I told her I don't think I have the time.

The model for Monday's Shoot just totally forgot and got some work for her that morning. I sent her a message to remind her about the shoot the next day and she came back with "I'm sorry but I forgot that we were shooting together and I schedule another paid shoot with some else." I did want to reschedule with her but she never got back to me.

Both Models were from Arizona.

Then Super Wednesday came and I had a early morning with Miss Shelby Valine.

She new to modeling and Super fun to work with.

Then I had an earlier afternoon shoot with Miss Jaimie B.

She an Experience that's been out of the game for over 2 year. I'm the one tasked to bring her back to life in modeling industry. I don't think I did that bad.

Final my last shoot of the day was with Miss Brittany Sutton for zivity.

I drained 4 sets of rechargeable batteries for my lights and one of the batteries I had from my camera. Drove almost all day while I wasn't shooting. Sweated a lot, got down on the ground and got dirty. Fucked up one of my shirts but I had a great time and got some awesome images. I really like doing this.

As for the Fashion show. I didn't make it. My foot starting giving me problems and I was trying to wait it out but it didn't get better. I didn't want to be the only one hobbling around in pain at an event so I opted to skip it. I Really wanted to go too.

Week 34: Right on time.

Rockin' the Jump with Ashley! And the story I promised you from last week.

Well here it is.

As you well know that last I shot with Miss Emerald Wood, who is an agency model. Her agency gets her runway job on a regular basis and some them happen to be at the Fashion Show Mall.

Here's the story of my run in with security..

I was at the Fashion Show Mall last Sunday to try and get some practice with my runway photography (apparently they actually have fashion show there).

Anyway I was waiting for the fashion show to start but before then they had some kids do some entertaining. I took a couple of pictures of the "youngest DJ" and had no problem. Then an 11 year old singer went on I was just messing around with my camera at this point (adjusting ISO for light since I wasn't using a flash) and was approached my some dude with the mall saying I can't take any pictures.

I then said "What about all the others taking pictures and videos?" He said "They're don't have professional equipment". I went on and said "You can buy all this stuff at best buy if you wanted, you call that professional?" Which he went on and said "You can take it up with my boss and security if you want" And of course I reply "Sure, I would love for them to explain why is it so wrong that I take pictures and everyone else can".

Security came over and without any explanation told me I'm not allowed to take pictures and ask me to leave. I was then escorted out of the fashion show mall. At the exit they told me to delete (the actually said erase) the pictures that I all ready taken. I told them "that's not going to happen" and kept walking.

They may have got me that day but this isn't the last time I'm going to go over there with camera in hand.

I wonder why is it so wrong to take pictures? This isn't the only time I've been asked to stop taking pictures at an event or show.

Well this week I also shot with Miss Julie Nguyen from New Mexico. She's only 17 years old.

And I did a burlesque show on Thursday night featuring Roxy Rogue. (Those pictures coming soon).

Week 33: One model, Same location, Police..

The cops showed up for this shoot.

This is Emerald Wood. She an agency model here in Vegas.

I only shot with Emerald for a little bit before Metro (police) showed up. Emerald park in front of the location I frequent and Metro saw that and thought that was kind of suspicious being that it's an abandon house. they found us shooting in the back and after being questioned and a background check they let us be. told us to be careful because there's a lot of vagrants around that area. Hell that area is better then the place I live now. That prompted the end of the shoot. I guess a first for everything.

I actually have another story to tell you about being interrupted while shooting. Kind of involves Emerald again. But I'll save that for next week. Till then, PEACE.

Random Late Night Blog: Shoe Product shots

Nice Kicks.

My Pops bought me some a pair of basketball shoe from K-Mart the other day. I let you know that he's taste in footwear is not the same as mine. He mean well, He know that the only sport I really watch is Basketball and I have big feet.

So the first thing that popped in to my head was "This was be great for a production shoot."

I had taken my Elinchrom out in a while so I decide tonight (morning rather) is the time.

Here's another one for you guys. These are my everyday shoes. I wore these to a Wedding. That's how I roll.

Here's the set-up shot.

That's an Elinchrom D-lite 2 on a manfrotto 3333 lightstand with a medium softbox. High above the shoe ( wish I had a boom arm for this). Power was set on 2.0. Trigger with Cactus wireless Trigger system.

Actually wanted to use a reflector to bounce light back in to the shoe but I left that in the car. So I had a SB-800 on SU-4 mode fill in some light.

For the protege shoe the SB-800 was on camera right set on 1/32 power with the diffuser dome on.

For the Chuck's the SB-800 was on Camera left set on 1/16 power with the diffuser dome on.

Camera settings are:
Camera - Nikon D80
Lens - Tamron 70-200 f/2.8
Manual setting
ISO - 100
Shutter speed - 1/160
Aperture - f/8.0
focal length - 70mm

Week 32: A Day late (as usual).

Trying more Fashion with Alexandra Y in my now Favorite location.

So I did have a busy week. I shot with 4 models and now I'm super back up with editing.

On Sunday the 9th I shot with Anais

Shot with Natural/ambient light. It's simple and easy. Love the soft light.

The on Wednesday I shot with Lynn.

It was a kind of the spur of the moment shoot.

Here another one of Alexandra on Thursday.

She from russia and she's says she about to retire for the modeling game. She's only 28. That's my age. Got back to old habit and shot with some strobes. Off camera flash on a light stand with an umbrella. Have to get back it to it. I need more dramatic images.

Then on Friday I spent some time with Sara Boucher.

I've been wanting to shoot with her for some time now. We've got some good images.

If you notice that van is in every shot except the first one. It's a great location and pretty quite and secluded. All kind of creepiness out there. I love it.

As you can see, I have a lot of post processes to do a I've been procrastinating as of late. I've been tried when I get home from work and decide to I want to sleep more than anything else. I'll get it done though. Still have to do my online Traffic school. I wonder if it really counts.

Week 31: Completely Spaced it.

I was actually waiting til the next time I can post to the "Project" and I completely lost track of time. Shot with Jade this week.

So yeah, I was lost there for a second and now I think I'm back up to speed. Shot with Jade, who is a super cool person. Lives in Las Vegas but goes to school in NY city. We had to re-schedule several times and I'm glad I did. I would love to shoot with her again, if she has the time.

I think we got some really great images out of our shoot.

That's at a secret location. Ask me nicely and I'll tell you where that's located.

Also Mikey (Polarpics) left for North Carolina this week. I talk to him already and he's made it there safely. There goes all the late night movies, shoots, and eating.

Week 30: In pain and forgetful

So my foot problem came back and it hurt more than ever. This is how I deal with the pain.

I went to work on Sunday like a dumb ass with my foot hurting really bad. Tough it out and had to call in Monday and Tuesday to re-cooperate. I had to use a walker to get around the house. I'm still limping around with pain in both my legs but I can put weight on my foot so I can still go to work.

I shot one set with a Model named Lizz. Great concept and I'm not done with the pictures yet. Was going through look at other website and I just realize that I didn't put up a blog last Saturday till yesterday and that's way this is so late.

I got the camerakit app for my iphone and I've been taking picture with it everyday now since I got it. It gave me a idea for a 365 project that's simple and easy. Keep a look out for it on my Flickr page.

Week 29: Location scouting

Found this place while driving on freeway. It's amazing what they have out there.

I'm getting tired of all the desert landscape and dry lake beds. I prefer buildings and cityscape. More or less i like to see what the city has to offer.

Week 28: At the Lake and running out of gas

Start of the week shooting Desirae at Lake Mead, NV. Sure was hot outside but the water felt nice.

The on Wednesday I had like 2 shoot schedule and both show one got scared and left (which was a guy) and other only shot for like 40 mins.

It was Jennie, Super sexy thai girl

Then I went to Polarpics' place and shot with him for a little bit.

This is Sarah S.

On Friday I shot with Victoria at the park really early (well for me anyway) It was hot outside.

Right after that around noon or so I shot with another Sarah S. Going for the fashion again.

Just wanted a different look than anything that can be done with a flash on camera. Thanks to wireless trigger I can pretty much place lights any where within about 30 feet. Not bad huh.

Week 27: My return to a old stomping ground

Went back to the desert. She never hate's me (well sometimes).

So, on Sunday I was suppose to shoot with a model that I would be paying for her services. She even confirm the night before. I get to the location and play the waiting game. I text her at first with no response. I then call and left a message. Then I called after another 20 minutes and left another message. I wait another 10 minutes and then leave to go to my buddies place in Summerlin and help him out with a schedule photoshoot he was doing. After the shoot went home and sent her a message on MM saying that you missed the shoot. Hope everything is okay. To which I get a response that "My mother was in a car accident and I couldn't leave her" Which is understandable. But wouldn't a courtesy phone be nice. Just a thought.

I shot this at Polarpics new Studio location in Summerlin.

I don't think that those model like me very much though. And that would be the second time I shot with the first model.

Also had other shoot through out the week and only 2 panned out.
Miss Angela W. was one of them.

As you can tell. I went back to studio #3. Dry Lake Bed in Jean NV. I shot another girl there on the next day but that's not work safe.

Week 25: Flakes and parking garage Fashion shoots

So I thought I was going to have a great week of shooting but model flakes seems to be the breakfast of champions in this industry.

Was suppose to shoot on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. All the model that were schedule flaked on me. The model on Monday text a few hours before the shoot saying that she went out last night and was hungover. Model for Wednesday had to take her sister to the dentist, reschedule for next week. And Thursday model, Mother was in a car accident, reschedule for next week as well.

I put a casting call on Model Mayhem Thursday to shoot that day with no real response. Thanks to good ole' Craiglist I got a model to do a fashion shoot "On top of the world" location. She brought 3 other models. So out of 3 scheduled shoots, I shots 4 last minute model. Pretty good Huh?

Random Late Night/ Early Morning Blog

This is a DIY Dual Flash Bracket I made. After looking up lots of DIY Dual Flash Bracket on the interweb, I decide this is not to hard to make. I probably do what those guys did and post a tutorial, if you will on how to do this for less than $5. Maybe make a Video alsio.

I have problems with the Cactus V2s triggers though. One of them keep going off without me doing anything. Sucks. I want pocket wizard but I just look it up and it would cost me about $500 for 3 of the tranceivers. Maybe down the road I guess.

Week 24: Still with the fashion

Shot with Victoria Quang. Sweet young lady.

The picture above is a little soft but whatever. I think the focus was as little off. I got to stop shooting at f/2.8 all the time.
Hey, and the above picture was edited with Photoshop elements 6 for mac. I just recently aqcuired CS3 for the mac. You figure out how I did it.

Also shot with Miss Tanya Su again. I think this is the 3rd or 4th time I've shot with her.

I'll be shooting with Victoria again soon, at least I hope.

It's not all of it but what I carry most. Here's the run down of what I got.

What's missing is

2 umbrella adaptors, 2 Manfrotto bogen 3333 light stands. 2 elinchrom D lite 2 heads. A bunch of ball bungees. and some odds and ends. That's all I can remember at the moments.

Week 23: Yuppers

So it's Sunday morning but it's closer than any other time I tried to update.

Shot with Marilyn at "The District" in Green Valley. We were told to leave because we can't take any racy pictures in a public. If wearing short and a white t-shirt is racy, I can't leave my house.

This was shot at a park near there. I got kind of bothered because there were to many kids running around doing shit.

I guess I should stick to shooting in alley ways and such.

Week 22: Shooting one of my Favorite models

Shot Mego again and she never gets boring. Actually woke up early and went to Nelson. Fun trip to say the least.

Then I shot Twiggy, I think her real name is Rebecca.

This is the shoot that made me decide that I should go into Fashion Photography. I bought a bunch of girlie magazines.

Week 21: My second, third and fourth Zivity set

Brittany is the second girl I shot for zivity. It actually in review right now. It's been there for a few days now.

In the middle of shooting my sets for zivity I shot Elizabeth. Who is actually calling herself something else on Model Mayhem now. Go figure. Just finishing her edits earlier tonight.

Then back to shooting for zivity. Dilenia, I haven't actually did anything for this other than this pictures because I'm waiting on model.

I was just checking and I actually shot Alyce for Zivity this week also. Man I was busy. Again I didn't do anything for this because I'm waiting on the model.

Week 20: My Return

Look Ma, I'm finally update the project.

So I shot Crystalina that week, had trouble with my computer so didn't edit them till late and send them to her. I don't think she like them. Oh well. I guess I have to go back to the drawing board with shooting professional models.

Actually shot some other stuff that night after a little dinner and movie thing. Kind of lost the material (RAW files) in my broken laptop and external hard drive.

Here's one before everything went down.

Did a shoot the next day also. at the mirage early ass in the morning but I was still up so it didn't really matter. I really didn't like the picture from that shoot but here's one of me just fucking around.

I know... Blah. blah blah...

I know I'm really late on updating this 52 week project. But I assure you that I've been taking pictures every week and will update as soon as I ready. Probably on my day off soon. Thursday.

Here's a picture, I tried to re vamp an old classic of mine. Didn't work out like I wanted it too. I'll be doing this again sometime soon.

Week 19: There goes my Hiatus

So I was on hiatus and this chick ruin it. She was from the shoot out I didn't participate in because I'm a Dickhead. Well I shot close to 900 images of her now I want to keep shooting.

On another note:

I was flaked on today. Went to the models house early and ready to go after only 4 hours of sleep and guess what? She wasn't there. That's some models for you.
